SOS: Save Our Stories

(Originally Published Tuesday, January 10, 2012 – Blogger: One Daughter’s Point of View)

Yesterday I posted about the incredible quilt collection at the DAR Museum in Washington, DC. But did you know about the SOS program?

The Alliance for American Quilts sponsors a program called SOS or Save Our Stories. This program focuses on creating a broad body of information about quilt making. This goal is achieved through recorded interviews whereby the quilt maker records their own stories. The archive for the original voice recordings and related photos is the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

You can volunteer to help by both conducting and transcribing interviews. For more information on how to Save our Stories and preserve our rich American quilting heritage, go to http://www.allianceforamericanquilts.org/qsos/.
