In the mid-1980s, NSDAR initiated what has become known as the Forgotten Patriots Project. This project sought to identify African American and American Indian patriots of the American Revolution and the contributions they made to the cause of independence. The result of this project was published in a book entitled Forgotten Patriots – African American and American Indian Patriots of the Revolutionary War: A Guide to Service, Sources, and Studies. This book was later supplemented with additional information gathered 2008-2012. Both the book and supplement are no longer available to purchase in print, however both are generously made available as a free download on the DAR website. Be sure check out this wonderful opportunity to learn more about these forgotten patriots.
